1904 Death of August Kirschling-3's parents from typhoid fever
The following obituary appeared 14 September 1904 in the Stevens Point Daily Journal, Stevens Point, Portage Co, WI,:
August Kirschling-3, who lives two miles southeast of Stockton station, died at 8'oclock Tuesday morning after an illness of eight weeks with typhoid fever. The funeral will be held Thursday morning at Polonia. Mr. Kirschling was 55 years of age but was of a strong robust constitution and seemed destined for a long life until stricken with the fever, shortly after attending the funeral of his brother's wife, who died of the same disease in this city about two months ago. He was one of the leading farmers in Stockton, having a fine farm well equipped with buildings and stock and was generally in very comfortable circumstances. He leaves a widow and several grown children. Mrs. Kirschling [Elisabeth Zynda-3] is also very seriously ill and her recovery is very doubtful. A daughter has also been very sick but is better at present. There have been at least a dozen pronounced cases of typhoid in the various branches of this family and a few among the neighbors since the death of Mrs. Anton Kirschling-3. The use of the water in the well at the family residence on Fourth Avenue and North Second Street has been forbidden but no analysis of the water was made. It is very unusual for so many cases to spring from one sporadic case unless all were exposed to the source of contagion. All the cases are believed to have resulted from visiting the Kirschling home in the Fourth ward at the time of Mrs. Kirschling's funeral.
He was buried on 15 September 1904 at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Polonia, Portage Co, WI.
