Carpenter in Navy

Leo Korda-2, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Korda-3, 661 Prentice street, has enlisted in the naval reserve as a carpenter and will report soon at the Great Lakes Naval Training station. He was formerly in the employ of B.V. Martin, the local contractor, but went to Chicago last fall and had since been employed in the sash and door factory of Noll & Wolf. Recently a call went out for 1,000 carpenters for the navy, and Leo was quick to respond. He was accepted Monday at the Chicago recruiting office and on Tuesday arrived in Stevens Point to visit his parents until Friday and to secure his discharge from the local exemption board. He was registered in this county and it was necessary for him to get a release from his obligation under the selective service law. He will go into the navy as a carpenter, with a chance to advance, and will be in active service for the period of the war. After a short training period at Great Lakes he will be assigned to duty constructing naval base canterments (word?) on home or foreign soil or on board some fighting vessel.
