Paul Corda [Paul Korda-2], a former Stevens Point boy who has been employed in Chicago for several years, is laid up with a broken toe through an accident which befell him last week. While unloading a barrel containing fifty gallons of oil, the barrel slipped and fell on his toe with the above result. He will be unable to work for about three weeks.

Paul Corda [Paul Korda-2], son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Corda [Anton Korda-3] of Stevens Point, was wedded Jan. 15th to Miss Gladys H. Mason [Agnes Muszynski-2], oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Mason [John Muszynski-3], 1335 Dickson street, Chicago.

The ceremony was performed by Rev. Swiatkowski at St. Stanislaus church, Chicago, and while the solemn words were being spoken a solo was rendered by Miss Helen Augustynowicz, with violin accompaniment by Miss Irene Mackowiak. The attendants were Frank Corda [Frank Korda-2], brother of the groom, and Miss Clara Mason [Clara Muszynski-2], sister of the bride, and Peter Nitz and Pearl Czyzewski. The groom is a well known former resident of this city, but for the past five years has worked in Chicago and at the present time runs a truck automobile for the Wheelers Varnish Co. The bride, who is a jolly young lady, was employed in the office of Mandel Bros.' store. The young couple will make their home at 2019 N. Hoyne avenue.


[Note: From the Polish Genealogical Society of Chicago marriage public data base, we find Record 137824 that "Agnes Moscinski" married "Paul" in 1913 and Record Number 127049 that "Paul Korda" married "Agnes" in 1913. From the birth public data base, we find Record 88751 that in 1891 "Agnes Mosinski" was born to father "John" ]

Note: First son Raymond Korda-1 was born in 1913 according to the 1920 and 1930 census for the Paul Korda-2 family.

Fills Two Positions

Paul Korda-2, a boyhood resident of Stevens Point, came here from Chicago Saturday to join his wife [Agnes Muszynski-2] and two sons [Raymond Korda-1 and George Korda-1] for a week's visit at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Korda-3, on Union street [sic]. Paul devotes a portion of each day to driving a taxicab in the big city and also acts as assistant manager of the Crystal theater, one of Chicago's handsomest movie houses [illegible]has main floor seating capacity of 2000 people. Two of his brothers, Leo and Frank Korda [Leo Korda-2 and Frank Korda-2], are also [illegible, presumably "living in Chicago"].

Mrs. Paul Korda, 49, wife of a native of Stevens Point, died Friday at a hospital in Chicago. She had been ill and a hospital patient for two weeks.

Mr. Korda [Paul Korda-2], whom she married in Chicago, is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Korda-3, 661 Prentice street. He survives with three sons, Ray [Raymond Korda-1] of Chicago and George [George Korda-1] and Bobbie [Robert Korda-1] at the Chicago family home.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at 10 o'clock in Chicago where burial also took place.
Those who attended the funeral from away included Mrs. Joseph Swetella [Josephine Korda-2] of Amherst, Mrs. August Kirschling [Antoinette Korda-2] of Arnott, Mrs. M. Durand [Mae Korda-2] of Stevens Point and Mrs. Anna Collier [Anna Korda-2] of Flint, Michigan, all sisters of Mr. Korda, and Mrs. Collier's daughter, Mae [Virginia Collier-1], also of Flint.

Former Resident Dies

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock at Chicago for Paul Peter Korda-2, 64, Chicago, a native and former resident of Stevens Point.
Mr. Korda died last Saturday [27 June 1953] at a Chicago hospital, following a lengthy illness.
He was born here on Jan. 12, 1889, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Anton Korda-3. The family home has been at 661 Prentice street for many years and is now occupied by Mrs. Mae Durand [Mae Korda-2], a sister of Paul Korda.
Mr. Korda resided in Stevens Point until he was 27 years old, being employed during his young manhood by Consolidated Water Power and Paper company.
He then went to Chicago and had lived there since. He was employed there as a salesman for Winters Paper and Paste company until about nine months ago, when his recent illness forced him to leave the firm.
Mr. Korda was married twice, both times in Chicago. His first wife, the former Agnes Mushinski [Agnes Muszynski-2], died in 1938. His second marriage was to the former Victoria Kallo [Victoria M. Kalla-2], who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, all of the first marriage, Raymond [Raymond Korda-1], George [George Korda-1] and Robert [Robert Korda-1], Chicago; six sisters, Mrs. Gustie Skibba [Gusta Korda-2], Buhl, Minn., Mrs. Anna Collier [Anna Korda-2], Flint, Mich.,Mrs. Jenny Kubiak [Note: Kubiayk, Jenny Korda-2], Mrs. Josie Sweetalla [Josephine Korda-2], Amherst, Mrs. Antoinette Kirschling [Antoinette Korda-2], 215 Prentice street, and Mrs. Durand; two brothers, Frank [Frank Korda-2] and Leo Korda [Leo Korda-2], Chicago, and six grandchildren.
Attending the services from Stevens Point were Mrs. Kirschling, Mrs. Durand and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Jakusz [Mildred Durand-1 and Harry Jakusz-1]. Others in attendance from a distance were Mrs. Collier and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Payne [Virginia Collier-1 and Harold Payne-1] of Flint.
The pallbearers, all nephews, were Erwin Korda [Irwin Korda-1], Frank Korda, Jr. [Frank Korda-1], William Korda [William Korda-1], Harold Payne, Harry Jakusz and Joe Blazek [Joseph Blazek-1, husband of Leo Korda-2's daughter Virginia Korda-1].

1897 A point of Korda family honor

A few days ago Frank Kardoc of the Fourth ward plead guilty to stealing pigeons in company with several other boys. The name on the warrant was Frank Korda and the name so appeared in print. There happens to be a boy in the city bearing the latter name [Frank Korda-2] and he wants it understood that he was not the guilty party.

[Note: original story June 26, 1897 reported that five boys ages 7-10 stole 16 doves on June 20 from Will Helminiski, were given a warning in court that repetition would be reform school.]

Young Mother Dies

A telegram from Chicago last Saturday brought the sad information that Mrs. Frank Korda [Marie Mitz-2] died in that city that morning, a victim of influenza. The funeral was held in that city yesterday. Mrs. Korda leaves her husband [Frank Korda-2] and a three year old son [Irwin Korda-1]. Mr. Korda, who is also laid up with the prevailing epidemic, is a former Stevens Point boy and son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Korda-3, 661 Prentice street. The deceased lady visited local relatives a few years ago. Mr. Korda left for Chicago on Saturday night's train and remained for the funeral.

1918 Frank Korda-2 survives influenza

Was Near Death's Door

Frank Korda-2 came up from Chicago last Sunday morning to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Korda-3, 661 Prentice street, and among other relatives. Frank is just recovering from an eight weeks' siege with influenza-pneumonia, and during a portion of this time there seemed little chance for recovery. Mrs. Korda [Marie Mitz-2] was taken with the disease at about the same time as her husband and died within a few days.Because of his condition, Frank was not informed of his wife's death until a couple of weeks ago.
